Terrific for a getaway. The grounds were very nice, the hosts were helpful and hospitable, and the food was well prepared.

This was the highlight of our trip to northern California and the best of the many B & B's we enjoyed. Our last two nights were at Cavello Point Resort and I would rather stay here. Outstanding and relaxing.

We enjoyed the ambiance of the whole inn, from the attractive gardens, common rooms, and the relaxing deck to our own private room. Each breakfast was tasty and filling. We enjoyed the afternoon wine on the deck with our friends. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. Our only complaint was minor: the shower water temperature fluctuated while using, but on the plus side the olume of water was great!

Our 2nd stay here. This is our favorite B&B in Sonoma County. The host is an oustanding person. We plan on visiting again & again.

The Inn at Occidental was lovely in every respect! The owners, Jerry and Tina, are delightful! The breakfasts every morning at the Inn were scrumptious and those scones...can't say enough about them! The chef even made special treats for our puppies! We had one of the best dinners we've ever had at Hazel just a short walk away....fresh, unique and delicious! We will be back!!!

This B&B was way over-priced for what you get. We stayed in a 2nd floor room in the main building, with a working fireplace; the website indicated a private deck, which was not clean, and not inviting, so we did not make use of the deck. The room was clean, but very ordinary, nothing special. For the amount charged for the room, we wanted to be wowed, instead we were underwhelmed. And breakfast - the toast offered was not homemade, or artisanal; rather it was plain wheat bread that you'd find in a plastic bag at Safeway. Sunday morning's eggs benedict consisted of one egg, on half an english muffin with a piece of packaged, processed ham that the "chef" had thrown on the grill for a minute to effect grill marks. We have stayed at many other B&Bs, for less money, where the rooms were gorgeous and the breakfasts were something to remember. Unfortunately, this was not the case at The Inn at Occidental.

The owners and the facilities were so great! Everything was so well taken care of. The porch, the breakfst and the bed was the most comfortable!! We will return!

I absolutely loved The Inn at Occidental. This was our first experience at a B&B and I’m already looking forward to visiting another. Jerry was very accommodating, allowing us to drop our luggage off well before check in so that we could go on our guided wine tour. Our room was clean and comfortable. I could have spent an entire day enjoying the beautiful courtyard. To top it all off, the breakfasts were delicious. The town of Occidental is small, but offers restaurants and shopping within walking distance. I would highly recommend the Inn at Occidental.
Listen to the fountain… Experience true relaxation in this welcoming first-floor room. Take a deep breath and sink into the comfort of the queen-sized canopy bed adorned with an 1880s appliqued quilt and eyelet bed hangings. Gaze out at the picturesque view of our English Cottage garden with its bubbling fountain. An original watercolor of pink roses hangs near the cozy sitting area with its corner potbellied stove. Did you see a leaf? How about an umbrella?
The French doors of this classic room open to the Inn's relaxing courtyard and gardens. Overstuffed easy chairs sit in front of the fireplace and antique horse-hunting prints hang over the luxurious king bed. A corner shelf displays pressed-pattern glass bowls made for the coarse sugar of the late 1880's. This first floor room is ADA compliant.
This suite, located off the living room area, features a secluded private patio and a full-size hot tub. Two Adirondack chairs complete the outdoor area. Black and white landscape photographs, mahogany furniture, and leather chairs add to the classic and cozy decor. A striking red and white quilt adorns the foot of the king bed, and a collection of 19th century English and Irish cut glass bottles are displayed in a corner shelf.
Providing a dreamy setting for a honeymoon or romantic getaway in the Sonoma Valley, the Tiffany Room features a four-poster queen-sized canopy bed, a wood-burning fireplace, and a two-person shower. Spend quality time together in front of the fireplace. Begin and end your day, relaxing on lounge chairs on your large private deck. A unique collection of Tiffany silver utensils is displayed in a shadow box on the lavender walls.
This second floor, queen-room features a marvelous collection of 19th-century Japanese ivory "netsuke." The intricately carved "netsuke" were used as fasteners that secured a cord attached to men's sashes to hold a container used as a "purse". They are beautifully displayed in a rosewood curio case. An antique armoire and dresser provide adequate storage.
Indulge your romantic side… A great garden view and a spa tub for two are the highlights of this spacious and romantic second floor multi-level suite. After a day of touring Sonoma area wineries, you’ll welcome a soothing soak in the two-person tub. You’ll find it tucked in a charming nook along with a window seat. The queen-size bed offers a peaceful night’s sleep before tomorrow’s adventure. Plan out the rest of your itinerary at the antique mahogany writing table, or read for a while in the overstuffed easy leather chairs in front of the fireplace. Black and white photographs by Ansel Adams stand out on the ruby red walls.
This spacious, second floor corner suite features a large separate sitting room with two swiveling chairs, a loveseat (that can convert to a sofa bed), a gas fireplace, and views of the garden courtyard and fountain. This king room has a spa tub for two in the living room with a view of the gas fireplace. An old thread spool rack displays antique marbles.
Drink in the atmosphere… In praise of local Sonoma vineyards, this room celebrates all that is wine. An 1880s grape-and-vine quilt graces the wall above the king bed. A collection of antique horse bridle ornaments hangs on the half wall by the spa tub for two. Above the fireplace is a great photograph of a nearby vineyard. This room is on the lower level of the Courtyard Building and is accessible by one flight of stairs. It has a private porch in front of the room.
Cook up some romance… Fancifully decorated with kitchen gadgets, the Kitchen Cupboard Room is the perfect getaway in Sonoma Wine Country for the foodie in your life. Dangling on display between the queen-sized bed and the spa tub for two are shiny brass cooking utensils. Framed above the fireplace, the gorgeous Hermes scarf with vegetable print is a wonderful complement to the room’s vibrant red walls. In a shadow box near the sitting area, a collection of bone-handled carving sets is on display. Other antique kitchen accessories including an electric marshmallow toaster, an oversized cheese grater, a toaster, and a waffle iron accent this whimsical and cozy guestroom.
Entering from the private porch, you will find this restful room decorated in shades of blue with red and white accents. This room features several Maxfield Parrish landscape prints. Behind the king bed hangs a 1908 friendship quilt handcrafted in Ohio. Each spoke of its pinwheel pattern carries the signature of one of its sponsors. Over the fireplace and sitting area, a silhouette print evokes thoughts of a bygone era. This room is on the lower level of the courtyard building. One flight of stairs to access room.
For the wild at heart… Get away to the peaceful plains of the Serengeti in our Safari Room. This exotic room boasts a king-sized bed surrounded by long, gauzy veils of mosquito netting and a floor-to-ceiling wall mural featuring a stunning giraffe. From the corner near the spa tub for two, African drums beckon for a beat. Forming the end tables are stacks of well-traveled antique leather suitcases, and bronze teller windows provide unique cages for the paintings of Big Cats hanging above.
Sleep in the woods… The outdoors create an inviting tableau indoors in this wonderful lodge-themed guestroom that pays homage to the Sonoma woodlands. The queen-sized bed is engulfed by a handcrafted birch-wood frame. Lighting the sitting area near the fireplace are birch-tree lamps (complete with birdhouses!) and elk-antler table lamps. A watercolor painting of aspens dressed in their spring foliage hangs over the bed. Walk through the patio doors to your semi-private deck to relax amidst views of the forested countryside. There are two flights of stairs to get to this upper level courtyard room.
Homage to creative simplicity, this room presents some of the Inn's finest folk art pieces. A set of playfor hand-cast croquet wickets hang over the fireplace. Hand painted to resemble horse racing jockeys, the wickets seem in the midst of a match! Above the spa tub for two is an exceptional piece of early redwood art - a carving once used as a fishmonger's trade sign. A handmade humpty-dumpty doll rests in a minature chair next to the queen pine bed. This comfortable room is on the upper level of the courtyard building and offers views of the courtyard and forest across the highway. There are two flights of stairs to access room.
Relax on a summer breeze… Just stepping into this bright, airy room brings visions of long days and lemonade. Wicker furniture and checkered chairs make it easy to while away the hours in front of the fireplace or on the private deck. The king bed is framed by an antique iron headboard. Green window shutters enclose a painting of a distant harbor, and a collection of flower frogs adorn the wall above the spa tub for two. Antique golf clubs, English folk-art fishing plates, harken back to summer days gone by. There are two flights of stairs to get to this upper level room.
Magical dreams take flight when you stay in this festive room. A colorful "big top" drapes over the king bed. Mounted above the spa tub for two is a large poster featuring the famous Flying Valenti brothers. A private balcony offers a commanding view of the courtyard and forests beyond from this upper level courtyard room. There are two flights of stairs to access room.
This spacious two-bedroom house has all the charm of a room at the Inn -- and at 2,200 square feet, all the space of a family home. Located adjacent to the Inn, the Sonoma Cottage is both private and convenient. The living room focal point is the entertainment center. Other features are an upright piano, gas fireplace and a sofa that opens to accommodate two additional guests. The Lower Bedroom has a king bed, private bath, gas fireplace and spa tub for two. A fully-equipped kitchen and a dining table with seating for 12 is a half level up from the living area. The Upper Bedroom features a king bed, fireplace, private bath and a whirlpool tub for two. This is the perfect accommodation for good friends who love traveling together or families with very young children. Well-behaved, good-natured pets are also welcome in the Sonoma Cottage.

Gerald & Tina Wolsborn, Marilyn
We both enjoyed careers in the hospitality industry. Jerry was a veteran of Westin Hotels, having managed The Mayflower in Washington, D.C., St. Francis in San Francisco, among others. Tina's background is in food & beverage. The highlight of her career was running the U. S. Supreme Court dining room and snack bar. It was a dream to own our property and that became reality when we purchased the inn in 2003.
